Hundreds of local residents come together for the Basket Brigade to assemble and deliver Thanksgiving meals to families in need on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving on 11/25 at 7am

Sharpen your dull knives to help feed local families for Thanksgiving

The holidays are right around the corner, and sharp knives are necessary for all of the cooking that comes with the season. Why not get your knives sharpened while helping a local charity feed Charleston families for Thanksgivign? We think it's a win-win. Everyone in the Charleston area is invited to The Coastal Cupboard Semi-Annual Charity Knife Sharpening Event from October 30 – November 2, 2014. Get your knives professionally sharpened for just $1 per knife where every single dollar benefits the Charleston Basket Brigade, a local charity with a mission to raise $100,000 to provide  3,300 local families (approximately 20,000 residents) with all of the ingredients to cook an entire Thanksgiving meal.

Held at the local cooking store during store hours, the event will feature knife skills demonstrations, food tastings, and specials on cutlery sets and knife sharpeners, and knife gadgets.  Jimmy Hagood, owner of Food for the Southern Soul, will have samples of his specialty sauces, rubs, and marinades on Friday, October 31st.  Doc Crombie, with Doc Crombie’s BBQ, will have samples of his famous sauces on food hot off of the Big Green Egg. A portion of the proceeds from sales of Doc Crombie’s BBQ sauces and Jimmy Hagood products will also benefit the Charleston Basket Brigade.

Brad Pitner, owner of The Coastal Cupboard said, “Since the holiday season is right around the corner, it makes perfect sense to benefit the Charleston Basket Brigade and support their mission. This event gets bigger and bigger each year, so we invite everyone to come out and sharpen their knives for this incredible cause!”

Pam Hartley, Co-founder of The Charleston Basket Brigade said, “We have been a beneficiary of the Charity Knife Sharpening Event for the past few years, and we are honored that Brad and The Coastal Cupboard staff invited our charity back again this year. It is such a fun weekend to be a part of, so we hope everyone joins in on all of the excitement.”

The Charleston Basket Brigade is a local nonprofit organization with a commitment to bring the community together to provide Charleston Tri-County families with all of the ingredients to cook a Thanksgiving meal. This year the CBB has set a goal to raise $100,000 to feed 3,300 families (approximately 20,000 residents) for Thanksgiving. It only takes $30 to feed a family of 6 and 100% of the donations go towards purchasing food. The meal includes a 10-12 lb. turkey, stuffing, smashed potatoes, gravy, corn, green beans, sweet potatoes with marshmallows, cranberry sauce, a pumpkin pie, fresh rolls and butter.  Each family receives an anonymous letter inside the basket that reads “This comes to you from someone who cares about you.  All we ask is that you take care of yourself well enough to be able to do this for someone else one day.” Then on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving, November 25, 2014, the Basket Brigade rallies up hundreds of volunteers to assemble and deliver all of the meals to each and every family.
