'Career Fire Chief of the Year' award goes to Charleston's Thomas Carr

Charleston Fire Department's Chief Thomas W. Carr, Jr. has been awarded “Career Fire Chief of the Year” by Fire Chief Magazine.

Carr took the lead in Charleston in 2008, replacing former Charleston Fire Chief Rusty Thomas his leadership was scrutinized in the midst of the Sofa Super Store fire tragedy that killed nine firefighters. Carr, a 30-year veteran, came to Charleston from his post as Fire Chief in Montgomery County, Maryland.

Carr will be honored in both the publication, and during the opening session of the International Association of Fire Chiefs' conference in Chicago later this month.
